When do you need steel?
Steel is called out by the engineer on the structural section of your plans. The engineer calls out each metal beam starting with the letter W_. A column schedule can also be found on the first page of your plans
How is price determined?
Price for steel increases according to weight. Asking the engineer to use a smaller beam or replacing small metal items with wood can save alot of money. Job complexity is also a big factor. If the steel is going to be placed higher than 10ft a skytrak is required. Certain hard to reach members may require a crane, resulting in a higher overall cost for installation.
When is the best time to order Steel?
Conventional steel is generally available within 1 or 2 business days. 1 or 2 weeks may be required for special order items direct from the mill.
